The threads of Palestinians in Diaspora is a tatreez community project that involves stitching 441 small individually unique Palestinian tatreez patterns by the community here in Edmonton and then stitched together to make initially an almost 3 meter square quilt like tatreez art piece. This community tatreez project is a growing add on project that initially started in Edmonton and grew to include other Palestinians in Canada and worldwide. After the initial presentation of this community project many from within the Palestinian community and from others locally here in Edmonton and worldwide have expressed interest in participating and therefore the project is open for all interested.

The objective of this project is in the title and it’s aim is to stitch together the pieces of Palestinians in diaspora under the umbrella of the 4 Colors of our flag that unites us wherever we are and wherever we go in our love for our home land. The project designs were inspired by Palestinian thobes, wall art, and decorative tatreez patterns, motifs and designs old and new that were designed and recreated with a modern twist.

Each participant is provided with a kit that includes the supplies needed to stitch their square and given time to return the finished piece. Each and every piece is documented and the process is monitored. Participants are supervised, supported, educated, guided and helped in every way as needed.
